During pregnancy sleep challenges are common due to body’s reaction to hormonal changes. Sleep of pregnant women is mostly interrupted by frequent bathroom visit and baby’s movement. The sleeping position during the first, second and third trimester is listed below.
First trimester:-
You must start to sleep on your left. This position improves blood circulation and facilitates smooth flow of nutrients to your fetus.
Second trimester:-
Sleeping with elevating head and neck is more comfortable. It prevents stomach acid to come up.
Third trimester :-
Sleeping on the left side is recommended in the third trimester as the position facilitates blood flow to your fetus and uterus
If you are not getting a good night sleep, you should consider the following tips.
- If you are worried about anything, then talk to your partner, family members or doctors about it.
- Take help of counselor to get rid of anxiety and stress during pregnancy.
- Sleep in soft bed with a comfortable room temperature for sound sleep.
- Avoid alcohol to prevent insomnia.
- Take frequent meals for avoiding feeling of nausea.
- Drink plenty of fluids in the day time.
- It is important to avoid fluids in the evening hours and night for minimizing frequency of urination in night.
- Avoid spicy and fried food to avoid heart burns.
- Reading, listening to soft music and taking bath before sleep is good for sound sleep.
- Keep your mind relaxed throughout the period of pregnancy.
- Yoga and mild exercises enforces sound sleep.
- Consult with doctor regularly will avoid problems during pregnancy.
